Several mornings recently, we've decided to go for a hike in the local hills and mountains. Our kids love exploring new places, and hikes are a great way to burn off some of their seemingly never-ending energy as well as develop their appreciation for God's creation. Taking a family hike is also one of the activities on our Summer Passport.
We have to carry our two-year-old son at times, but he still enjoys walking part of the way and exploring new places. When we go outdoors, we talk about the beauty of creation, and we talk about other gifts God has given us.
One way to integrate this into our faith is to read all or a part of The Canticle of the Sun, a poem by St. Francis of Assisi, before or after your hike:
Most High, all powerful, good Lord,
