Reading can be a great way to spend some time during the summer, as kids probably don't have a lot of time to read for enjoyment during the school year (especially in the higher grades)! Reading can also help prevent the "summer slide". We included "Read a Good Catholic Book" on our list of activities for our Summer Passport Project, and linked to a list compiled by a Catholic mom (at Catholic.com here). Below we've listed some additional books that we think are great for developing kids' faith.
Working with the Strong Catholic Families group at our parish school, we created a summer activity book with a "Passport" theme, with the idea that intentional activities with your family, especially in the summer months, can form deep roots of spirituality and faith that will have positive effects throughout your children's lifetimes.
Families can complete the activities in the book, and then write the name of each activity and the date completed on a visa stamp in their passport. At our parish school, there will be prizes handed out for completed activities and passports.
