Reading can be a great way to spend some time during the summer, as kids probably don't have a lot of time to read for enjoyment during the school year (especially in the higher grades)! Reading can also help prevent the "summer slide". We included "Read a Good Catholic Book" on our list of activities for our Summer Passport Project, and linked to a list compiled by a Catholic mom (at Catholic.com here). Below we've listed some additional books that we think are great for developing kids' faith.
These books have spiritual and moral components that are missing in so many kids' books today. If you're in Southern California like us, we're blessed to have several great Catholic bookstores in the area for purchasing books, music and gifts:
Paulist Press Book Center
1525 Mesa Verde Dr E #120, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
St. Michael's Books & Gifts
23016 Lake Forest Dr, Laguna Hills, CA 92653
Catholic Books & Gifts
18921 Magnolia St, Fountain Valley, CA 92708
Pauline Books & Media
3908 Sepulveda Blvd, Culver City, CA 90230
Here's the list of books, most of which are available on Amazon as well (links included):
Baby to Toddler:
Preschool to Kindergarten:
We'll add another blog post later with books for grades 5 and up. Let us know if you have any suggestions for additions to this list!
